Budget Team

The Budget Team is composed of the officers of the Congregation Council, which meets on a quarterly basis.  The team reviews and evaluates financial matters relative to Advent's operating budget and cash flow and makes recommendations to Council as needed.  The Budget Team is also responsible for and annual review of Advent's books.

Communications Ministry

The Communications Ministry assesses the needs of Advent in terms of presenting and promoting the ministries that we have been blessed with.  This team seeks to provide valuable information to our community in the form of web pages, brochures, press releases, Narthex monitor, and advertisements, etc.

Congregation Council

Comprised of thirteen elected members of Advent and the Pastor, the Congregation Council is responsible for the decision-making, visioning, governance, and leadership of Advent.  Council meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm and all are welcome to attend meetings.

Mission Endowment

The Mission Endowment Team is responsible for the prudent investing of funds granted to the Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church Mission Endowment Fund (MEF).  It is also working towards developing a Planned Giving program at Advent.

Fellowship Team

Beth Pittman

The Fellowship Team is responsible for coordinating social activities to encourage fellowship and friendliness among Advent's membership and friends.  The Fellowship Team seeks to strengthen the bonds of fellowship and faith in our church community through bringing together all ages, families, and friends as children of God and practicing hospitality.  Activities include the First Sunday refreshments, progressive dinner, talent show, Lenten Soup Suppers, F4A dances, and Cookout/Campfire/Sing-a-Long.  We put the FUN and FRIENDSHIP into FAITH and FELLOWSHIP!

Go Getters

Larry and Sandy Carpenter

The Go Getters is a new fellowship group for Advent.  The group invites all adults, especially Empty Nesters, Retired, Singles, Widows and Widowers to participate in various social functions throughout the year.  Planning for the coming fall is underway.

Naomi Circle

Doris Benedict

Naomi Circle is a Bible Study for women which meets the second Wednesday of each month.  This year the group will be engaged in a study of the Gospel of Matthew?.

Prayer Chain

The Advent Prayer Chain enables communication regarding prayer needs among members and friends of Advent through e-mails.  All prayer requests are welcome.  The e-mail address is prayers@adventelc.org.

SALT Men's Group

SALT (Sharing and Learning/Living Together) Men's Group meets every Thursday morning at 7:00am to talk about real issues that men face today.  Part of their mission is to provide men with a group study on topics of interest.  The group is a safe, non-competitive place where caring, fellowship, learning and personal growth can occur.

Sunday School

Sunday School is available for preschool through high school at 9:45 to 10:45am on Sundays during the year.  During the summer we do not have Sunday School offered.  It will begin again in the Fall on Rally Day, September 13.  Click here to visit the Sunday School blog.

Tag Sale

Every year in the month of June, Advent has its Tag Sale.  This is a fundraiser for the general fund and also is a recycle/reuse project for the congregation.  Throughout the months of May and June, the Tag Sale team meets and tags items brought in by congregation members culminating in the sale.

Vacation Bible School

During the first full week of August, Advent hosts a Vacation Bible School program.  This has proved to be a very successful program and is looked forward to by Advent and the surrounding community.

Youth Programs


Advent's youth participate in many activities in three categories:  service, devotion and fun.  There are four groups under this ministry:

Junior/Senior High (7th - 12th grades)

Selected Sunday nights at 6:00 - 7:30pm.  The youth group will also meet at various other times for additional activities.  For further information check out the Youth Bulletin board and take a copy of the Youth Calendar.

Catechism (5th - 6th grades)

Sunday nights from 6:00 - 7:30pm.  Pastor Saunders leads this and there should be more information available in another location in this directory.

Y2 (1st - 5th grades)

On selected Tuesday nights throughout the year, this group meets from 6:30 - 8:00pm.  Meetings are about once a month.  The Youth Calendar will have the specific dates for the year.

My Family and Me (preschool and K)

This group of young children and parents meets quarterly for activites, crafts and typically lunch with a Biblical theme and relating to the time of year.  Also this group hosts the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Women's Group

There are many facets to this group.  There is Bible study, a group that meets at the church on a short term basis a few times a year, and a yearly Women's Retreat.  The variety of choices allows you to find the right fit for your schedule.  Please contact Charlotte or Bev if you would like any further information.

Property Team

The Property Team provides for the proper maintenance and protection of the physical plant and all property of the congregation not under supervision of other teams.  It reviews and evaluates performance of paid personnel in its area and forwards recommendations to Council.  Activites include designing and implementing a long-term landscape plan, clean-up days, mowing and general maintenance.

Stewardship Team

The Stewardship Team takes leadership in encouraging the Congregation to share their God-given gifts of time, talents and financial resources for the life and ministry of Advent.  Activites include Consecration Sunday, a prayer vigil, and organizing inspirational and educational stewardship programming.

Thrivent Financial

Nick Brannick

This group began at Advent in January 1994 as a branch of AAL.  As a service group, it has done various activities to raise money for individuals in need and groups within the church.  Matching funds are then received from Thrivent based on a yearly stipend.
