Altar Guild

The overall purpose of the Altar Guild is to see that the worship space is kept beautiful and in good order, both to glorify God and to provide a setting which enables the congregation to worship in a meaningful way. There are many responsibilities of Altar Guild, including the Altar, pulpit, lectern, linens, paraments, vestments, candles, bread, wine, narthex, Sacristy, flowers, pews, pew racks, and placement of member response cards and envelopes.
BEARS Preschool

One of our newest ministries, Advent has opened its doors to the community through this program. The preschool will operate during the week and their thoughtful remodeling projects will contribute to our Sunday School and Adult Learning opportunities on Sundays. Evangelism Team

The Evangelism Team's responsibilities are wide ranging to include visitation ministries for both prospective and inactive members, community outreach, and publicity. It also provides programs for iniviting new members into the congregation. Evangelism occurs at many different levels, from showing hospitality to guests on Sunday mornings to coordinating visitation to first time guests to Friendship Sunday.
Live Nativity

The annual Live Nativity is a popular December Christmas event at Advent and the surrounding community. This ministry involves live animals, "actors", live music, luminaries, readings of the Christmas story, singing hymns and carols, refreshments and fellowship as we provide a live nativity scene on our lawn.
Music Ministries
Music Ministries encompasses many different groups at Advent, including worship music, Advent Angels (children's choir), adult choir and hand bells.

Dream Team - Matt Pittman
This is a song and dance troupe for children 1-5th graders which lead openings and closings during Vacation Bible School. They meet on Tuesday nights during the summer in order to learn the songs and motions.
Nursery

Nursery service is available during both Sunday Services, as well as during the learning hour and special occasions, for children under 5 years of age. A paging system has recently been added to teh nursery. See Worship Teams for contact information.
Social Concerns Ministry
Chris Reik
The Social Concerns Team reviews social conditions, especially in the local community. This group is to serve as the focal point for developing, maintaining and publicizing programs (solutions) for individual or collective action, assessing resources needed, and encouraging Advent members to volunteer time, talents and funds. Ongoing projects include: Lutheran Social Services (LSS) Food Pantry, Lutheran Village Chapel Volunteers, Crop Walk, Community Garden, Helping Hands Medical Clinic and Souper Bowl.
Worship Teams

These teams coordinate the Lord's Servants, sets of volunteers who perform a variety of important tasks during Sunday morning worship services. Here are some of the positions coordinated by these teams:
Acolyte - lights candles, assists during the Offering
Reader - reads the day's lessons
Communion Assistants - set the Communion table and distribute the wine during Communion
Gifts of Bread and Wine - present the bread and wine to the Communion table
Greeters - welcome worshipers as they come to service
Ushers - hand out bulletins and assist during the Offering and Communion
Crucifer - carry the cross to and from the altar
Sound Crew - adjusts sound levels for worship leaders and musicians during the service
Assisting Ministers - present parts of the liturgy, creed and prayers during worship
