Since the earthquake, the ELCA has received more than $4.6 million to support humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti. Financial gifts from the ELCA are used to purchase and distribute medicine, drinking water, food, emergency shelter, sanitation and hygiene kits and other materials to aid survivors of the earthquake. Lutherans are also working to provide psychosocial services and other support.  Haitians have also received more than 31,000 hygiene kits, some 4,500 baby care kits and about 4,000 blankets since the earthquake. More than 150,000 people have been provided water, sanitation, shelter or food.  The funds are continuing to be distributed to the three partner organizations of the ELCA working on the ground in Haiti.  Members of Advent Lutheran Church contributed more than $1000.00 to help in these humanitarian relief efforts.

The Great Pizza Hunt will continue in February.  March 5th we will meet at 6:00 p.m. in Advent’s Fellowship Hall.  Bring a large pizza to share.  Salad and drinks will be provided.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will add $1 to every $2, up to a total Thrivent Financial contribution of $1 million, when our members donate to Lutheran World Relief (LRW). Thrivent Financial will add a maximum of $250 per member donation.  Be a part of the Helping Haiti effort and make a difference for the victims of this natural disaster.

Shawn Fiegelist and Christine Reik of the Advent's Social Concerns are working to gather in pledges to the overall work in Haiti, such as help with water, purification materials, as well as temporary shelter items.  The best way to assist people caught in an emergency is to give cash.  Your gift will be used to respond to the "Haiti Earthquake" crisis until needs are met.  Please consider making an unrestricted donation to help. To contribute, make checks payable to Lutheran World Relief - Haiti Earthquake. Check will be collected until Sunday February 21, 2010.   You can give your check to Shawn, Christine or Pastor.
