Mother's Day

May 13

Mother's Day!  Need we say more?  Bring Mom to church and do your best to show Mom you thank God for her!

Pentecost Sunday

May 20, Please wear RED to show the Spirit!

On the fiftieth day of Easter we celebrate the Spirit, through whom and in whom the people of God are created and re-created. Pentecost is sometimes called the church’s birthday, but might more appropriately be called its baptism day, since the gift of the Spirit is the fullness of baptism. Ezekiel’s vision shows the Spirit resurrecting and re-creating not just individuals but a whole people. Romans makes it clear that God is in the process of re-creating the entire cosmos; yet the Spirit is also at work in the most intimate and personal way, praying in us “with sighs too deep for words” when we do not know how to pray.

Prayer Buddy Banquet

May 20 at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall

Throughout the school year our younger youth have been paired with Older, Wiser, Lutherans (OWLs) to take time together - talking, praying, questioning, and enjoying each other's company.  As the school year comes to a close we celebrate this intentional time together!

Southern Ohio Synod Assembly

June 1-2

A synod assembly is an event in which nominated representatives of congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America go and vote on how to run the Synod, elect in Bishops, and elect representatives to the ELCA's churchwide assemblies.

The 2018 Southern Ohio Synod Assembly will take place on June 1-2 at the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center at 100 Green Meadows Drive South in Lewis Center, Ohio.

The theme for assembly is Being Church Together: What does the Lord require of us? Our focus scripture is Micah 6:8.

Music Appreciation Sunday

Sunday, June 3

We have multiple musical ministries at Advent and as their season comes to a close for the summer break we want to celebrate their ministry and say thank you!  Join us in the Fellowship Hall for refreshments and rejoicing!

Youth Cedar Point Trip

June 6

Confirmation Camp / Pathfinders Camp

Lutheran Memorial Camp, June 10-15

Spend a week away from home experiencing nature, swimming everyday, playing games and learning more about Jesus. During your week a camp counselor will be with you the entire time, along with 5-6 other cabin mates. Together you will walk through a creek, cook a marshmallow over a fire and sleep in the same lodge or cabin. Sit next to your new friends at a campfire as you sing songs, pray and hear about Jesus. Laugh together while making a fun craft, play a silly camp game, or join your cabin mates on a hike through the woods. Each day there will be a Bible study with your cabin group, plenty of time to write letters home, and new adventures for youth just like you.

Congregational Meeting

June 10, 9:45 a.m.

This is a meeting for all members of Advent to talk about where we are in our mission, give updates on projects, and vote on Council members and our next budget.

Tag Sale

June 15 & 16

Members and friends of Advent ELC have donated gently used items.  This is an important event, not only for the ministries of Advent, but also to serve the community.  The Tag Sale is also a major community recycle/reuse effort!  In addition, local area residents, some of limited means, have a chance to get needed household items at a much reduced rate.  Our Tag Sale Team has also proven to be a valuable resource for those families in the church struggling with what to do with leftover items from an estate sale.  Finally, all items left after the tag sale are contributed to the VOA (Volunteers of America).

See more on the TAG SALE page.

ELCA Youth Gathering

June 24 - July 3 | Houston, Texas

Every three years, 30,000 high school youth and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives.

An important part of the Gathering's ministry are the two pre-events, the Multicultural Youth Leadership Event (MYLE), a faith formation and leadership development event primarily for youth of color, and the tAble, a gathering that gathers, blesses and empowers youth with disabilities.
