“God’s work. Our hands.” is a special weekend which gives and focuses on opportunities to celebrate who we are as Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church and as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. Since 2013, thousands of ELCA congregations have participated in this opportunity and dedicated one day to serve communities in ways that share the love of God with all people.

We are a church that rolls up our sleeves and gets to work. Whether you bring in school supplies for Columbus children, or prepare food and serve the homeless and less fortunate in areas around Columbus, or have your child come in and make cards and art that will be sent to thank and cheer a person serving in the military, or bringing in items for homeless blessing bags, these service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutheran Christians: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.

Last year we were able to...

  • 97 Blessing Bags were filled and made available to the congregation!

  • My Family and Me provided us with 100 "Jesus is a Life Saver" bags of life savers to include in the Blessing Bags!

  • The other 40 or so bags we filled with just socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, the resource insert, etc. are being passed out by the Youth at Loaves and Fish tonight!!!

  • 18 beds were delivered by three Bed Brigade Teams!

  • Sr High youth helped out with the Salvation Army Canteen Truck and served about 70 meals to the hungry
